Aligned to the UN International Peace Week and dubbed “The Dance Aid for the New Millennium” (The Evening Standard, London), the mega-event’s mission is to foster an environment of peace and harmony throughout the global sphere while supporting non-profit humanitarian and peace-related causes. In the spirit of “Think Global, Act Local,” each local Earthdance event donates at least 50% of their profit to a local charity.
The highlight of Earthdance on the weekend of 15th of September – where nearly half a million world citizens in over 50 countries join together – is a simultaneous link-up, when every event across the world plays the 4-minute Prayer for Peace track at 16h00 PST – morning in the Australian rainforest, midnight in London, and sunrise over the Himalayas – a profound and powerful unifying moment. In South Africa this will be 01h00 on Sunday, 16th of September. This year the global theme is “Honouring the Waters”.
Earthdance encourages music and entertainment that is culturally inclusive.
EARTHDANCE SOUTH AFRICA
2007 is the 10th year that Earthdance will be celebrated in South Africa and there will be events staged in Cape Town, Johannesburg, KZN and Coffee Bay, Eastern Cape.
EARTHDANCE JOHANNESBURG
For the last 9 years in Johannesburg (Gauteng), a small group of private individuals have got together with little or no budget, setting aside their personal careers and business, and worked hard to make this happen on a voluntary basis without remuneration.
On Saturday, 15th of September 2007 it’s time for the biggest dance and music festival in the world!! Over the weekend, we will be staging Earthdance Johannesburg at the beautiful Naledi which was originally founded by Sanusi Credo Mutwa, on the Hennops River in the Cradle of Mankind just outside Johannesburg (24 km North from Fourways Mall).
The focus this year is on world music and a showcase of a diverse range of cross-cultural SA-style bands and DJs, workshops, story-telling, performance art, dancers, drumming, a beautifully draped and decored “Rejuvenation Station” for massage therapists and relaxation, fully interactive kids’ entertainment programme, camping and an exhibition of products related to alternative energy and re-usable sources and wellness will be showcased – a music and dance festival of note to Give Back to the Earth!
