DARTS GOES COUNTRY!
Maestro Ulrich Urban, world-renowned concert pianist, in recital at Lake Bandula on Sunday, the 19th March 2006.
Ulrich Urban achieved full Professorship of Piano at the Leipzig Hochschule fur Musik in 1991, after the fall of the Berlin wall.
Twenty of the thirty-five different piano concerti in his repertoire were under the auspices of German Radio, in addition to the many other pieces included in over one hundred and sixty broadcasts. As well as a busy career as a solo pianist, Maestro Urban has also conducted many orchestras in Germany and internationally.
His concert tours have taken him all over Europe, Japan, South America, and since 2003 to the United States of America, where he gave concerts and conducted master classes. His numerous CD recordings encompass all musical styles, with emphasis on the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
This recital by Maestro Urban includes compositions by three Austrian composers and one piece by Erle Ninow, the twenty-three year old South African composer, who has achieved great recognition in Germany. Erle Ninow was inspired by the doctoral thesis of Dr. Lorraine Joubert on the music of the Tshwana, Sotho and Xhosa. Combining and blending these unexplored sounds with the conventional European music was an exciting challenge.
