The only cure for cabin fever is to book a ticket to somewhere beautiful. Sadly, the pandemic has made this quite difficult... fortunately for us life is slowly but surely turning back to normal with more and more countries opening up to South African travellers. Here's where you can go visit, so far.

France

Baby, pack your bags, we're headed to beautiful France to celebrate! As France opens for travel again it is time to explore the world with confidence. Switzerland

As the epidemiological situation continues to improve in most European countries and further in the world, as well as with the fast vaccination rate prevailing in most areas, similar to other countries, Switzerland is now widely open for South African travellers, given that they are fully vaccinated. Switzerland is best known for its mountains, lakes, and breathtaking views. The best time to visit Switzerland is between April and October, though winter sports enthusiasts may prefer December to March. The country has four distinct seasons, each with its own attractions. The spring months of March to May bring Alpine blooms, flowering trees and cows heading out to pasture.

Canada

Effective from 07 September 2021, South Africans who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption can enter Canada for discretionary travel. As exciting as this may be, there is a bit of a stick in the spoke here. The Great White North has seen an immense increase in travel visa applications, so get ready for a bit of waiting. Then again, it's totally worth it. We recommend you check out Toronto during the summer. The best times to visit Toronto are late April through May and September through October. Peak tourist season occurs during the summer months: the sidewalks come alive with pedestrian marketplaces, patio restaurants and numerous cultural events. However, as temperatures rise, so do prices.

Zanzibar

The most beautiful place on earth is now open to fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa... then again, a couple of months back all you needed to get in was a negative Covid-19 test. Either way. Zanzibar is beautiful all year round. The allure of Zanzibar is timeless. White sands and turquoise waters ring the island, and African, Indian, Arabic and Persian influences intertwine in Stone Town to form a rich cultural backdrop.

Egypt

Egypt is full of big hitters: the Pyramids at Giza, sensational museums and cafe culture in Cairo, not to mention some of the finest diving in the world in the Red Sea. Explore the desert through some of North Africa's best hiking trails or take it easy at five-star resorts complete with private beaches that slide gently into the azure water. There's a catch though. All arrivals into Egypt, including its citizens, must provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure. The certificate must be written in English and Arabic and be stamped by an accredited laboratory.

The Maldives

The Maldives reopened its borders to tourists of all nationalities on 15 July 2020 and made it public that there will be no further incoming travel restrictions to the country. South Africans are welcome to enjoy the sun-kissed beaches of this beautiful nation of islands. Surrounded by deep blue waters, flourishing coral reefs and powder-white beaches, the chain of islands that makes up the Maldives provides the ultimate destination to unwind with a delicious cocktail whilst lounging in a hammock or, for those slightly more active, exploring the vivid coral reefs on excellent snorkelling and scuba diving excursions.
