The Auto & General Theatre on the Square is bringing you never ending laughs in 2020. From stand-up comedy to hilarious skits, they have something to tickle any kind of funny bone. Here are our top picks for the upcoming comedy season. 

Ntosh Madlingozi in Sober Sex 

Dates: Wednesday, 1 April 2020 – Saturday, 4 April 2020

While you may not have heard of him before, Ntosh Madlingozi has been working in the comedy industry for 13 years. Dabbling in acting, stand-up, television and corporate MC work, he is an absolute all-rounder. Since his debut in 2005, he has appeared in Blacks Only Comedy, Heavyweight Comedy Jam and the Tshwane Comedy Festival. Now, stepping out on his own, Ntosh will be performing at the A&G Theatre on the Square in April 2020.

Sober Sex is all about observation – the oddities of life which Ntosh cannot help but notice despite his best efforts, from self-discovery, to male and female dynamics and the unlearning of bad habits. Make sure to book your tickets as soon as possible!

He Had It Coming

Dates: Tuesday, 14 April 2020 – Saturday, 25 April 2020

Mike van Graan is recognised as one of the country’s most successful political drama writers and directors. However, this April he presents He Had It Coming – a series of comedic sketches featuring Fleur de Cap Awards winner, Nancy Sekhokoane. Employing elements of satire, song, poetry, humour and drama to comment on a range of contemporary themes, He Had It Coming provokes both reflection and catharsis from the audience.

The A&G Theatre on the Square proudly welcomes van Graan back to the space after previously hosting his critically acclaimed comedy revue, Pack Back The CurryIf stand-up comedy isn’t your idea of funny, then give van Graan’s gripping style of satire a try this April.

Loyisa Madinga in Problem Child

Dates: Wednesday, 27 May 2020 – Saturday, 6 June 2020

After a sold out run in 2019, Loyisa Madinga returns to the A&G Theatre on the Square in Problem Child. A show about his rural upbringing and private school “miss-education”, Problem Child is a laugh-a-minute spectacle.

Loyiso has been the recipient of a Comics Choice Award and was the first African correspondent to The Daily Show hosted by Trevor Noah. Since 2018, he has been on the rise, gifting audiences with the joy of laughter along the way. Don’t miss out on seeing him perform live.

Dates: Wednesday, 10 June 2020 – Saturday, 20 June 2020

Joburg’s favourite Xhosa-speaking Jewish comedian returns to the A&G Theatre on the Square in June. This comedian’s unique style of comedy has earned him a position as one of the industry’s most bankable acts. Selling out numerous shows at the theatre in previous seasons, his latest show will run for a limited two week bill. You won’t want to miss this, so book your tickets right away.
