You don’t need to spend a fortune on a ticket to Europe to experience an authentic Bavarian town square over Christmas time – Silverstar has brought it to The Globe six months early! To keep you warm this winter, don’t miss out on all the traditional food, music and delights of the Bavarian Christmas In July Festival.

What Was It?

Silverstar is bringing Joburg yet another installment of the winter spectacle, The Bavarian Christmas In July Festival. The Globe will be transformed into a cosy Bavarian town square over the Christmas season, complete with a traditional Oompah band. To keep the winter chill at bay, warm up with mouth-watering foods, a collection of various drinks and great family entertainment ideal for all ages.

Other than the distinct sounds of the tuba and trombone from the Oompah band, the entertainment lineup will also include great South African bands who’ll be bringing a local twist to the festivities. The Dixie Hillbillies, a local folk-rock band, as well as one of the hottest Afrikaans-punk bands in the country, Beeskraal, will be providing great tunes.

While the magnificent music lineup will have visitors dancing to the festive sounds, the food will tantalise their palates, as there will be plenty of food stalls with the best selection of Bavarian delicacies available. Feast on delicacies such as eisbein, bratwurst, roasted chestnut, cheese pastries, home-made jams, freshly made pancakes and delicious breads. And what is a Bavarian festival without beer? Choose from an array of beers, ciders and gins that will be on offer, as well as a range of winter-warming schnapps. For those who prefer something hotter, indulge in a glass of glühwein and rich hot chocolate laced with rum. Yum!

The Bavarian Christmas in July Festival is a full-family experience, ensuring everyone has their share of the fun. The kids can enjoy a ride on the carousel, while parents sample delicious offerings from the various exhibitors at the village market. Town square vendors will be showcasing various interesting gifts, and candle-making and glass-blowing workshops. Roaming buskers will add to the fun ambience as they entertain and interact with the townsfolk.

Silverstar has made sure that every element of the festival is as authentic as possible, giving visitors a great escape into another world. It is going to be an unforgettable winter experience.
