What Is It?
The Bioscope Independent Cinema is bringing you a great selection of award-winning Brazilian films this July. In partnership with the Embassy of Brazil, the Bioscope presents the 2019 Brazilian Film Festival. Courtesy of the embassy, all films are free of charge. So, you really have no excuse not to attend.
The first film on the line-up is Linha de Passe, a story about four brothers from a poor family who need to fight to follow their dreams. The film stars Sandra Corveloni, who won the Best Actress Award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival for her role. Second on the bill is Nise – The Heart of Madness. Based on the life of psychiatrist Nise da Silveira, a pioneer of occupational therapy in Brazil, the film is set in 1944. After leaving prison, Dra. Nise da Silveira is back at work in a psychiatric hospital on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. She brazenly refuses to employ electroshock and lobotomy in the treatment of schizophrenics. Ridiculed by doctors, she is forced to take the abandoned Sector for Occupational Therapy. Here she starts a revolution through art, dogs and love.
Film fundis, this is definitely one not to miss. Book your free tickets as soon as possible to avoid losing out.
