What Is It?
Adventure Junkie SA and the Proteadal Conservation Association are once again hosting the Black Eagle Mountain Run. Join them at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens this May, for a race day in celebration of Joburg’s wild spaces. The organisers aim is to drive a fundraising initiative towards conserving the precious ridge habitat’s of Roodepoort, as well as all the amazing biodiversity within this area. There will be 8km and 16km routes. These routes head into the open rocky grassland and include more technical running sections. Whether fiercely competed or enjoyed at a more leisurely pace, both routes pass by the garden’s cascading waterfall. Frequent park goers will know that this waterfall is home to a breeding pair of majestic Black Eagles. It is also a great spot to take a quick selfie before dashing off to the finish line.
If you are unable to compete in the longer races, take the 2.5km route which travels through the beautiful garden walkways. Following the race, there will be an honorary prize giving for the participants, as well as the National Trail seeding Event. Food and drinks will be available.
