Alternative Exercise Options To Get You Fit & Moving!

Does the traditional ways of working out bore you? Then why not add a little fun and excitement to your exercise routine with a few non-traditional exercise options? We have mentioned a few of our favourite ways to move and stay active below. 

Get On Your Dancing Shoes

Exercising doesn't necessarily mean lifting weights and running a couple of kilometres on the treadmill. You can get moving and elevate your heart rate while also having fun and learning a new skill. A great example of this is taking up a dance class in your area. Latin, ballroom, tap or modern, all forms of dance will get your moving and sweating a little bit. Not only will you get your steps in, but it'll also work on your coordination and motor skills. So, if you're looking to incorporate a little salsa into your workout regime, be sure to find a dance studio near by and sign up for some dancing lesson.

Try Some Brisk Walking

Also, you don't need to run for hours just to burn off those calories. Sure, running will do the job faster, but some of us simply do not enjoy klunking down the road, heaving for breath. So, brisk walking will do the trick. It'll take us longer to burn as many calories as running or jogging does, but this way we'll avoid any unnecessary injuries and can include a little bit of socialising along the way. Also, luckily for us, there are a few walking clubs in the city – think Run Walk For Life – and safe spaces where you can talk a lengthy walk.

Ever Heard Of Body20?

Don't have much time to spare in order to get your weekly workouts in? Not a problem! Body20 is a great way to get your week's workouts done at the blink of an eye! They use EMS. Have you ever heard of EMS therapy? Essentially, it's a form of muscle stimulation using painless electrical impulses. Get Climbing!

Get for upper body strength and coordination, climbing is a great option if you're looking for an unconventional and exciting way to get into shape. Not only will you be breaking a sweat trying to climb to the top of their climbing wall, but you'll also have loads of fun while you're at it. There are courses available for both young and the young at heart, as well as other fitness option on offer, including yoga.


Let's Go Hiking

Another great way to get active over the weekend is throwing on your takkies, grabbing a few friends and love ones, and spending the morning or afternoon exploring and experiencing one of Joburg's best hiking trails. Trust us, there are plenty you need to hike! We have a few favourites mentioned here, which we will be expanding on the more we get out there! Just be sure to prepare before your hiking – grab a backpack and fill it with water, sunscreen, caps, an emergency first aid kit, sunglasses, a jacket, compass, and whatever else you may think you need.
