“Come on babe, why don’t we paint the town… and all that jazz!” so go the lyrics to popular musical, Chicago, that will be performed at Redhill School. The production can be supported between Friday, 24 March and Saturday, 1 April 2023.
This production of Chicago The Musical promises to be an experience unlike any other! The Tony award-winning show was first premiered on Broadway in 1975 and ever since then has become one of the most popular musicals to date. In a nutshell, the musical is set in the roaring twenties in Chicago at the height of the jazz, flappers and prohibition era. The protagonists include two murderesses, Roxy Hart and Velma Kelly who are both on death row and trying to seek fame and fortune. Will their lawyer, Billy Flynn be able to manipulate the court system in their favour? Book your tickets and find out!
Director Joseph Gerassi has modernised the musical and it is now set in the 2020s by incorporating the use of social media. “To make the content more relevant for a modern-day audience, we have chosen to portray the media frenzy surrounding the trial through social media: Instagram, Twitter and TikTok instead of the scripted use of radio and newspaper coverage. Our aim is to portray the enormous power that social media has to influence people and their decisions in the 21st century within the context of this dazzling and unforgettable trial of the century,” says Gerassi.
Tickets for adults cost R200 per person. It is recommended that you book early to avoid disappointment. The show has content of an adult nature. As such, parental guidance is advised.
