Document

With January ending (probably taking all motivation to follow through with New Year’s resolutions for some), it doesn’t hurt to start planning out which 2019 races to run this year. And if you’re still trying to get those fitness resolutions started, this list isn’t a bad place to start. Races and walks don’t have to to be a physical struggle.

2019 Races

Spar Women’s Race

The Spar Women’s Race is one of the big races in the country. This race takes place in multiple cities around South Africa and is aimed at women of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels to take part. The race consists of a 5km and an 8km race, so it’s great for women who want to start running road races no matter what their fitness level. The date for the Joburg race has yet to be released, but keep an eye out on their website for details.

Pick ‘n Pay Women’s Walk

The Pick ‘n Pay Women’s Walk is another well-known and popular race/walk. This walk benefits breast cancer research and isn’t only aimed at women, but is a family-friendly walk, so you can even bring the kids along for a day of exercise. The race is only a 5km which makes it ideal for all ages and fitness levels. Oh, and let’s not forget the amazing cause behind it. The 2019 date hasn’t been announced yet but the walk usually takes place around the end of September or beginning of October.

Muddy Princess Joburg

If you don’t mind getting dirty then the Muddy Princess Run may be right up your alley. This run is one of those races that’s aimed at women and women only! But beware, you have to be prepared to get really muddy, as the name suggests. And be sure to dress up, it’s meant to be loads of fun! This race place a couple of times a year and the next one is taking place on 17 February 2019.

2019 Races

The UV Run – 5km Night Run

This race is different because, well, it take place at night and it has the added element of being a glow race. This race is a 5km that’s aimed at people of all fitness levels, too. The race contains five Glow Zones with a twist. The only thing is you will only be made aware of these said twists on the evening of the race. Talk about an element of surprise to add more thrills to the mix. Just make sure you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit of colour “paint” on. The next race is taking place on 30 March 2019.

CMIYC Superwomen Run

As the title suggests, this celebrates the superwoman in every woman. This race is aimed at superwomen of all fitness levels. You can run, walk, crawl, or do whatever you’re comfortable with. All finishers get medals, so it’s not about how fast you go, but the effort you put in. This race takes place at Rietvlei Zoo Farm, a beautiful farm located in Johannesburg South which features loads of kids activities. You’re encouraged to dress up as your favourite superwoman too which adds to the fun! So, invite your mom, sisters, aunts, or girlfriends and take part in this fun day. The next race will take place on 6 April 2019.

2019 Races

Women’s Trail Run Joburg

This race is another one of Catch Me If You Can’s (CMIYC) projects and is a race in honour of women. This race is a celebration of Women’s Month and will take place on 4 August 2019. This race has three distances – a 5km, 10km and 15km – which allows women of all fitness levels and ages to join in the fun. Walkers are of course welcome, too.

Hopefully these races will give you that extra boost of motivation to get running or walking more this year.
